From the archives of Australian Power Boat Racing we present the EC Griffith Cup Medallion – a lasting tribute to one of the nations’s oldest perpetual and most prestigious motorsport trophies. Now out of production.
Featuring the historic and now highly collectible Bronze EC Griffith Cup Unlimited Racing Commemoration Medallion. These medallions honor winners from 1910 to 1977, with two editions issued—some in bronze and others in silver, historically, even traveling to the USA when the Thunder-boat Solo competed abroad. Only a limited number were ever created.

The first and second edition of the E.C. Griffith Cup medallion features a face side sculpted by Stanley Hammond. It depicts the Griffith Cup itself, symbolizing the trophy’s long history since 1910. The reverse side carries raised lettering that lists the EC Griffith Cup race race winners, along with the boat names and their drivers. The initial idea was that each year a new medallion would be issued, updated and showing the all of the Griffith Cup winner’s names on the reverse side (as pictured above). These medallions were released in both silver and bronze, and showcased in stylish presentation boxes. (Only two editions were ever released – in 1976 and 1977). Making these medallions a rare collectable series of E.C. Griffith Cup medallions.
The historic (and now collectable) Bronze E. C. Griffith Cup Unlimited Racing Commemoration Medallion was produced by the late R. (Ron) Simpson PTY LTD Melbourne (Ringwood, Victoria Australia), and features winners from 1910 to 1977 on one side of the medallion coin and three VSBC boats on the other side; Aggressor – Vulture – and Redline.
